Luxury tour of Réunion & Mauritius
During this individual tour, you will discover two islands with distinct identities. On La Réunion, you will follow a carefully planned route around the island, where the landscape sets the pace. You will travel from green highlands and water-rich cirques, deeply carved mountain basins around the Piton des Neiges, to volcanic plains, mountain villages, and lagoons. The trip combines nature, local culture, and active experiences, without long days of driving or unnecessary stops. After this intense discovery, Mauritius is a natural extension of the rhythm: fewer trips, more rest, and space to experience the island at your own pace. Together, the islands form a balanced trip in which experience and relaxation reinforce each other.
Travel itinerary
-
Your journey begins in the green east of La Réunion, where the landscape immediately sets the pace. From your accommodation in the hills around Sainte-Anne, you will discover a lush region of forests, rivers, and waterfalls. The drive to the Cirque de Salazie follows the Rivière du Mât and reveals a succession of waterfalls along steep mountain walls. The contrast with the coast is striking: here, humid valleys and steep mountain walls dominate.
In Hell-Bourg, one of the island's best-preserved Creole villages, you will walk past traditional wooden houses with a local guide. You will gain insight into the architecture, daily life, and history of this region, where the pace of life has been slower for generations. Along the way, there will be time for short stops along the coast or a visit to one of the vanilla plantations before returning to the tranquility of the interior.
-
From the east, follow the coastline southward, where the landscape visibly changes. Lush greenery gives way to black lava fields and open ocean views. You will pass small fishing harbors, rugged cliffs, and natural pools formed by centuries of volcanic activity. This route reveals a rougher, more powerful side of the island.
A highlight is the exploration of Piton de la Fournaise. The road winds its way up through the Plaine des Sables, a vast, almost alien landscape. From the Pas de Bellecombe, you can look out over the crater and get a tangible sense of the forces that shaped La Réunion.
-
The route to Cilaos is an experience in itself. You drive into the heart of the island via a narrow mountain road with hundreds of bends. The climate cools down and the landscape closes in around you, with high peaks and deep valleys setting the scene.
During your stay, you will explore both the village and the surrounding nature. Viewpoints such as Roche Merveilleuse offer panoramic views of the cirque, while wooded areas such as Bras Sec invite you to go hiking. Cilaos is also known for its local traditions: viticulture, embroidery, and cuisine. A cooking class before dinner brings this culture to life in a direct and informal way and provides a warm moment of encounter.
-
After the mountainous region, you descend towards the west coast. The landscape opens up again and the climate becomes noticeably milder. Along the way, you can stop in villages such as l'Entre Deux or at natural formations along the coast, where the ocean crashes against black rocks.
On the west coast, you will discover the lagoon area during a guided kayak tour in transparent kayaks, a peaceful way to observe the underwater life without disturbing the environment. There will also be time for the beach, short visits, and simply enjoying the sea view. This part of the trip forms a natural transition to the next island.
-
After your flight to Mauritius, you will immediately leave the busier coastal areas behind and drive into the green interior. In the hills around Chamarel, life moves at a different pace, with more space and silence. The surroundings invite you to go hiking, swimming, and take short trips in your rental car. Without a fixed itinerary, you can set the pace of your days yourself. Those who want to experience the island from a different perspective can opt for a helicopter flight over Le Morne Brabant, the reef, and the lagoons.
-
For the last part of the trip, you will head to the north coast of Mauritius. The focus shifts to the sea, lagoon, and relaxation. The days are yours to fill as you wish: beach, short boat trips, or simply doing nothing.
-
After a final breakfast by the sea, you will drive to the airport for your return flight. You will return home with memories of two fantastic islands.
