Luxury self-drive tour of Croatia
On this tour, you’ll follow the natural curve of the Adriatic coast, from Split to Dubrovnik. Islands and mainland alternate as you travel through a landscape shaped by successive civilizations: Roman foundations, Venetian elegance, Ottoman influences, and Habsburg touches have left their mark on both the cities and the natural surroundings. You’ll drive along a carefully planned route, with ferry crossings and boat days providing a pleasant change of pace. Thanks to longer stays, you won’t feel like you’re constantly on the move.
Itinerary
-
Upon arrival, you’ll be taken by private transfer to the historic center of Split, where you’ll stay within walking distance of Diocletian’s Palace. Together with a local guide, you’ll discover how this Roman complex has been transformed over the centuries into a vibrant city: cellars, the peristyle, the cathedral, and narrow alleys form a single, layered whole. The rest of the time is yours to spend visiting museums, taking a dip in the sea, or experiencing daily life along the Riva.
-
You’ll pick up your rental car and take the ferry to Stari Grad. Hvar unfolds in contrasts: stone villages, vineyards, quiet bays, and bright light. You’ll stay in one place for several nights, leaving room for your own choices. One evening, you’ll dine at a traditional konoba in the interior. Another day, you’ll take a private boat to Brač or, depending on sea conditions and your preference, to Vis and the Blue Cave of Biševo.
-
Travel through southern Dalmatia and take a short ferry ride to reach Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Mostar, you’ll take a guided walk through the Ottoman-era city center, past the bazaar, and across the iconic bridge over the Neretva River. The architecture, cuisine, and religion here vividly illustrate how East and West meet. You’ll spend the night near the historic heart of the city, so that the evening hours become part of the experience as well.
-
You’ll continue driving along the Neretva Delta and across the impressive bridge to Pelješac. At a renowned winery, you’ll sample wines and olive oil, followed by a gourmet lunch amidst the vineyards. From Orebic, you’ll take a ferry to Korcula, with free time in the old town and a guided horseback ride along the beaches and through Lumbarda. On another day, you’ll sail by private boat to Mljet National Park, featuring saltwater lakes, forests, and an island monastery.
-
In Ston, you’ll discover salt pans and fortress walls that guarded access to the region for centuries. Afterward, you’ll head out into the bay with a local oyster farmer for a tasting straight from the water. In Dubrovnik, you’ll stay for several nights just outside the Old Town. With a guide, you’ll explore palaces, monasteries, and streets that bear witness to an extraordinary city-state. A full day is set aside for a private sailing trip to the Elaphiti Islands, where the pace and stops are determined together with the skipper.
-
You’ll drive into Montenegro and follow the winding road along the Bay of Kotor. With a guide, you’ll explore the walled city, its maritime history, and religious diversity. The next day, you’ll head into the mountains to the Ostrog Monastery, spectacularly built against a vertical cliff face. The drive there is just as impressive as the site itself.
-
Back in Croatia, you’ll cook with a winemaking family in Konavle. You’ll harvest ingredients from the garden and work together to prepare a meal that cooks under the peka. Afterward, you’ll drive to Cavtat, an elegant coastal town where you’ll wrap up your trip in peace and quiet. A short drive to the airport and returning your rental car will bring this tour to a close.
